FAQs
What is therapy like?
Every therapy session is unique to each individual and their specific goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.
Is therapy confidential?
In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a psychotherapist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. Your therapist will discuss this in detail during your first session.
Who Provides the Therapy?
Therapy at the Center is provided by board-certified, state-licensed therapists from one of several mental health disciplines. They include licensed professional counselors (LCMHC), licensed professional social workers (LCSW), and psychologists (PhD/PsyD). Our therapists hold a Master’s and/or Doctorate in their fields.
When is therapy available?
The therapy is usually available Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Individual therapist maintain their own availability. When the Center is closed, we maintain an answering machine to take messages and direct clients to emergency care. If you need support after hours, contact RHA's Crisis Management Team: 1-844-709-4097.
Where are we located?
We are located at 4810 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28403

How can I pay for therapy?
We offer a range of payment options. We are committed to making therapy financially accessible. At this time, we can take the following payment options:
Cash, Check, Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover

Do we take insurance?
We are providers for many health insurance companies. There are countless insurance arrangements, and these are constantly changing. If you have mental health insurance coverage, give us a call, and we can check your eligibility. When insurance coverage is used, our standard fees apply, and you are responsible for your copays.

What if I do not have insurance?
You do not need to have insurance to be a client of the Community Counseling Center. Fees for clients without insurance are determined by a sliding scale based on household income and the number of people in the household. For families with low household incomes, our Community Fund can be used to supplement client fees.

How are we managed?
A local Board of Directors manages the Center. Board members are recruited from community leaders and organizations. The Board oversees the work of the Center and supports the financial operations of the Center.

How do we get money to operate the Center?
We get money in two ways. One is through the fees that we collect. These are used to provide the many clinical services necessary to ensure that quality counseling is provided. But since many of our services are supplemented (provided at substantially reduced costs to clients who could not otherwise afford therapy), they do not generate enough funds to cover the costs of operating the Center.

The second way that we get money is through financial gifts and contributions. These are funds given to us by churches, the business community, civic organizations, foundations, United Way, and individual community members. The Board of Directors raises money through fundraising events such as our Spring Plant Sale and Fall Mum Sale each year.

These contributions help with the operation of the Center and supplement therapy services. Raising these funds enables us to provide hope and healing for all without regard to ability to pay.

What is the Community Fund?
The Center maintains the Community Fund. When a client cannot afford the minimum fee, we draw from this fund to pay for the client's therapy.
